“Innovation distinguishes between a leader and a follower…”
… is the title of a blog written by Steve Jobs in 2001. Innovation for us here at Clarity is about providing our clients with the very best tools so that they can succeed in engaging their teams, reaching their goals and making financial savings which would have otherwise been lost in waste. Through working closely with our clients we are able to design and develop the very latest visual management possible and it’s our mission to ensure it’s accessible to everyone looking for visual management to make Lean work.
In this post, we’re excited to share with you some of our latest visual management innovation and explain a little more about how these relatively simple tools can result in huge success.
Let’s take a second to evaluate the effectiveness of your own continuous improvement project tracking.
Start by asking yourself some simple questions:
We found that when we asked our clients these questions we were getting a lot of recurring answers come back at us. As with most important initiatives, there isn’t the buy-in that those leading it would like and ultimately the system managing was all too often over-complicated and, when put into use didn’t work very well either. So, we took a step back and looked at just we could use visual management to manage continuous improvement in an open way that engaged all the stakeholders involved, regardless of their level of seniority or if they’re actively involved in C.I. themselves or not.

The board helps the team better manage their continuous improvement in some really fantastic ways and provides a simple, structured a visual way of progressing continuous improvement ideas:
Red tagging is an essential part of every 5S programme. Red tags are used during the ‘Sort’ phase of 5S and tags are used to identify unnecessary items that need to either be thrown away, recycled or relocated. The red tags are an important visual management tool as they easily and quickly communicate visually to other staff members that the items are unneeded.
Is your red tagging as effective as it could be? Do the team know the importance of red tags for your 5S program?
Ask yourself these important questions and challenge yourself to be better:
Here at Clarity, we fully understand the importance of making sure that your 5S programme is maintained and works as effectively as possible. We’ve found that our clients often start off the sort phase of their 5S programme with the best intentions but they often fall by the wayside after a short amount of time and the time and hard work that goes into initially progressing the project is wasted. That’s why we developed the Clarity 5S Red Tag Station, this simple but incredibly effective tool gives your workplace a visual hub from which to manage the tracking of all your live red tags!
This simple-yet-innovative visual management board provides an effective way of managing all your live red tags in the workplace and helps you sustain your red tagging as well as:
Alongside the benefits of helping you manage the live red tags, it also helps the team learn, understand and remember the process of effectively red tagging.
The process of red tagging an item is:
