The Network Rail Cambrian Line is the latest improvement upgrade work announced by Network Rail this week and will benefit from track renewal between Newtown and Aberystwyth over a period of eight weeks and around £7.25m of investment.
The existing Network Rail Cambrian Line track between Newtown and Aberystwyth has the track bolted together, this will be removed and replaced with a newly constructed continuously welded track which will drastically reduce the noise for local residents as well as a better, more comfortable ride of railway passengers. This latest upgrade announcement is part of the much larger project of upgrading the Cambrian Line and remove its jointed track.
Route Managing Director for Network Rail in Wales & Borders, Andy Thomas said: “The route is vital to the local economy and provides a critical link for rail customers in mid and north-west Wales. Our upgrade work to the Cambrian Line will ensure it remains reliable long into the future.”
“I would like to thank the local community for their patience while we carry out this work as part of our Railway Upgrade Plan and reassure them that we are doing all we can to keep disruption to a minimum.”
Customer Services Director for Arriva Trains Wales, Bethan Jelfs said: “The Cambrian line is an incredibly valuable part of the Welsh network so to see such a significant investment to protect it for the future is excellent news. We have worked closely with our partners in Network Rail to ensure this work causes as little disruption to our customers as possible.”
Here at Clarity Visual Management, we’ve had the privilege of working with some of the largest rail infrastructure projects in recent years. Our work with Network Rail and the various rail operators in the UK has given us first-hand experience of making Lean work in rail through effective, engaging visual management. We’ve worked with Network Rail and shown them how to use visual management to achieve their goals, exceed their targets and make financial savings which would otherwise be lost to waste. We work with all of our clients to create a bespoke strategy that ensures visual management is set up for success before providing specific, high-quality Lean products to sustain the visual management programme and make Lean work in the organisation long-term.
