Clarity Visual Management advice that there is one important question to ask yourself and your business; “are you really ‘making Lean work’?” It’s this question that’s the catalyst to understanding your current performance and what you can do to improve it; for many businesses Lean is simply something that they’ve tried to implement in the past and which has failed as quickly as it’s started.
What’s the reason?
Engagement!
Implementing a Lean programme is never something to be taken lightly; it’s also not simply something that you merely ‘do’, it’s a journey; and, like a journey, it’s filled with twists, turns and challenges. The trick to success is perseverance and Clarity’s job is to help you. The battle is to get people bought-in to the same Lean thinking as yourself and this isn’t a one-sided challenge. Every level of the organisation needs to get on-board with the mission; it’s the only way to succeed.
5S is the perfect example of how thinking about the longer-term is the key to success. There are five key pillars to 5S; Sort, Set in Order, Shine, Standardise and finally, Sustain. If the programme isn’t sustained it’s not 5S, it’s a simple one-off housekeeping exercise which, over time, will revert right back to its old state. Sustaining the programme involves getting buy-in at every level and having the right tools to be able to continue the programme; the two go hand-in-hand and it’s here where Clarity’s work exists to add value to your organisation.
Clarity’s work features across the UK rail network and they have enjoyed a special relationship with Network Rail for a number of years. Clarity has worked on some of the largest UK rail infrastructure projects in recent history, including particular success with the London North East (LNE) line where Clarity’s visual management helped to reduce Operations and Maintenance expenditure from £180M to £160M and reduce workforce and irregular working accidents by 20%. The Clarity Team implemented over 524 control rooms across the LNE line which were used for meetings, problem-solving and as a place to keep track of progress and KPI’s throughout the complex and high-level project.
The success of Clarity’s work within the rail sector has no doubt been due to their ability to get right to the heart of the problem and work with the teams in a collaborative and unbiased way as well as having the ability to embed the Lean culture into the rail industry from within. Of course, it’s not just rail that benefits from Clarity’s expertise; they also work with brands and businesses across multiple industry sector spectrums including manufacturing, retail, energy, automotive and construction. A multi-discipline approach ensures the teams take on best practice from across multiple industries and share this with their clients to impact their own organisations.
This year, Clarity Visual Management will be attending Infrarail 2018 at the ExCeL London from 1st to 3rd May.
